Creative Content Development Specialist

Job Description

This creative and innovative storyteller works across development, communications, and engagement to build content for multiple Arts Alliance Illinois platforms. The Creative Content and Development Specialist builds the backbone of our organizational messaging, engaging our core audiences through developing marketing materials and newsletter content, writing grants, creating social media posts, and writing appeals and thank-you letters. This tech-savvy professional also makes certain our CRM database runs like a well-oiled machine, and provides occasional support for Alliance public, member, and board programs.

Founded in 1982, Arts Alliance Illinois is the state's leading voice for the cultural sector. The Alliance builds the vitality of communities statewide through service and advocacy, generating resources for the cultural sector and creative industries. Duties and Responsibilities

Communications (30%): Work with the Communications and Development Director to frame messages and narratives for core Alliance audiences including cultural organizations, artists, creative entrepreneurs policy makers, funders, media outlets, and others. Lead front-line communications through social media, digital advertising, and online promotion, and seek out opportunities to build our network and lists. 

Grant Writing and Management (20%): Work with the Development Director to research prospects, then draft and submit proposals and reports for foundation, government, and corporate support. 

Database Management (20%): Accurately and efficiently manage donations and accounts, and generate needed reports from within the Alliance's CRM and other databases. 

Alliance Membership Program (10%): Lead membership retention strategies by running monthly membership reports, sending renewal notices, and keeping membership organizations consistently engaged and recognized. Support all activity around a ladder of engagement and membership acquisition. 

Individual Donor Management (5%): Work with the Development Director to identify donor giving potential and develop campaigns for solicitation and recognition. 

Event Management (5%): Utilize the Alliance's CRM and other databases to create accurate, strategic invitation lists for events and track engagement and attendance. Assist with logistical efforts for events as needed including planning, correspondence, set-up, clean-up, branding efforts (through signage and other means), etc. 

Position Qualifications

The Creative Content Development Specialist: 

  • Has exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Has a clear, concise, and creative approach to messaging
  • Loves finding fresh ways to tell good stories
  • Is passionate about the role of arts and culture in communities 
  • Is familiar and comfortable with technology and social media
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle multiple tasks accurately and efficiently 
  • Understands the mission of Arts Alliance Illinois
  • Offers thoughtful criticism but also provides solutions
  • Is extremely detail-oriented and thorough
  • Is a self-starter with a proactive mindset
Familiarity with the following is required:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Calendar)
  • Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, Photoshop Elements) 
Familiarity with the following is preferred

  • Salsa CRM Suite and Advocacy 4, or other CRM databases
  • Media editing and production tools (iMovie, Final Cut, Publisher, Photoshop)
  • Webinar / online meeting tools (Zoom, Citrix, FreeConferenceCall etc.)
  • Digital marketing tools (Perfect Audience, Google AdWords, etc.)
  • Online payment apps and services (PayPal, Venmo, Square, Zelle)
  • Online survey tools (SurveyMonkey, Google Forms)
