TAP trains volunteers, leadership and staff of arts organizations in grassroots advocacy techniques, preparing a diverse network of local leaders for organized action on behalf of the arts. TAP gives citizens who care about the arts the skills they need to participate in the policy making process.

IAAF worked with a statewide committee to develop a new training program, including an easy-to-use handbook, power-point presentation, and role-playing opportunities. The new program has achieved outstanding evaluations from participants across the state.

Below is a sample TAP session invitation. If you would like to schedule a TAP training session contact the Arts Alliance at 312-855-3105.

Sessions times are flexible and can be held during the workday or after 5:00pm.

Because if we don’t stand up for the arts, who will?

As an artist, administrator or board member of an arts organization you need to know how to lobby:

  • Because the arts are essential to our cultural and spiritual quality of life, to our economic development, and to the education of our children.
  • Because the arts should be a priority when public policy is made.
  • Because unless we defend our convictions, we’re at the mercy of those who do.
The Advocacy Project jumpstarts your lobbying efforts with a fast-paced training session led by experts who will give you the skills you need to:
  • Build relationships with lawmakers.
  • Help shape public policy.
  • Participate more fully in the democratic process.
  • Strengthen the arts, further your organization’s mission and improve your community through effective lobbying.
