With the support of the Illinois State Board of Education and Illinois Arts Council, Arts Alliance Illinois hit the road in the fall of 2012 to build and mobilize a base of arts education advocates across the state. Stops included:

Southern Illinois

Southern Illinois - October 5 at the Carbondale Community High School

Arts at the Core Southern Illinois More than 50 teachers from Jackson and Perry County schools in Southern Illinois joined Arts Alliance Illinois to learn how to integrate the arts into the classroom in a way that aligns with Common Core State Standards. Presented by Bruce Taylor, a consultant specializing in Common Core, the workshop shared best practices, resources, and action steps for both certified arts specialists and teachers in other subjects.

Peoria - October 5 at the Gateway Building

Arts at the Core Peoria More than 50 arts providers, educators, and concerned citizens came together to reflect on the status of arts education in District 150 and to think about the future of arts learning in Peoria area schools. Since then, the Peoria Arts Leadership Team has worked with U.S. Representative Aaron Schock (R-IL18), Co-Chair of the STEAM Caucus in Congress, to advocate for arts learning as part of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education.

Rockford - October 24 at Collect: Art Gallery

Arts at the Core Rockford There was standing room only at the Collect: Art Gallery as LuAnn Widergren, the new Director of Fine Arts for Rockford Public Schools, shared what's next for arts education in District 205. The evening ended with a call to action and resources to help Rockford residents expand access to the arts in all schools through advocacy, collaboration with the community, and partnerships with area arts providers.

Evanston - October 29 at the Joseph E. Hill Education Center

Arts at the Core Evanston More than 100 advocates came together to publicly launch the Evanston Arts Education Coalition. Attendees included Dr. Hardy Murphy, Superintendent of the Evanston-Skokie Community Consolidated School District, Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl, and State Representative Robyn Gabel. Leaders of EvArtsEdCo are now working to launch an Arts Leadership Team to guide an arts education planning process for District 65.
