Illinois Arts Alliance Gala

The Illinois Arts Alliance Board of Directors established the Arts Advocate and Arts Legend Awards in 1999 to honor two individuals – an advocate and an artist – each year.  The Illinois Arts Alliance Gala Committee may occasionally choose to honor an organization, corporation, or outstanding artistic collaboration in either or both of these categories.

An Arts Advocate or Arts Legend:

Has significantly advanced the artistic and cultural lives of the people of Illinois either as an artist or advocate;

Has contributed to the enrichment of American culture through accomplishments as an artist or advocate;

Is recognized for his or her achievements by peers, critics or scholars, and people who care about the arts in Illinois;

Was born, raised, or has spent a significant part of his or her career in Illinois;

Has used the arts to enhance communication among Illinois' diverse communities;

Is a role-model for young and emerging artists as well as arts advocates;

Has created art of such excellence or has advocated on behalf of the arts so effectively and consistently as befits a legend.
