The City of Chicago is creating a plan to support the arts and artists throughout the city. The last time the City created a Cultural Plan was 26 years ago in 1986 under the administration of Mayor Harold Washington.

The 2012 Cultural Plan will focus on how the city can:

Celebrate culture in our neighborhoods
Increase quality arts education in our schools
Integrate culture into the civic life of Chicago
Make Chicago a global cultural destination
Strengthen the capacity of the cultural sector

If you support arts and culture in Chicago, sign the petition. Your signature lets elected officials and city leaders know that there's a broad base of support for our museums, theatres, music clubs, dance troupes, and public art. The more signatures we get, the more likely it is that the Cultural Plan will become a reality.

We reached and surpassed our first goal of 3,000 signatures before the City released its State of Culture report. Can we get 7,500 people to speak out before the final Cultural Plan is delivered in October? Will you be one of them?
