Illinois invests in state-of-the-art Cinespace Film Studios

Illinois is investing $5 million in capital funding from the Jobs Now! program into the new Cinespace Chicago Film Studios, a state-of-the-art film and television studio. Slated to become the largest such facility in the U.S. outside of Hollywood, Cinespace is located on 48.2 acres on the near southwest side of Chicago between Ogden and Western Avenues.

Illinois is known for its excellent crew, iconic shooting locations, and aggressive tax incentives. Now with new stage space available, we are the complete package -- truly a world-class film destination. -- Governor Pat Quinn

Watch Governor Quinn celebrate Cinespace:

When fully built out, Cinespace will include 1.2 million square feet of space. It has already served as a location for filming of parts of "Transformers 3," "A Nightmare on Elm Street," and other projects.

The opening comes as the Illinois Film Office reported a record $161 million in spending for 2010 and more than 8,000 job hires on film and TV projects.

Illinois' film industry is stronger than ever. [Cinespace] will allow us to host a bigger volume of productions at once and we are positioned to have another prosperous year with thousands of job opportunities for Illinoisans. Our local community continues to grow and strengthen. -- Betsy Steinberg, director of the Illinois Film Office
