Arts Alliance Illinois in Springfield for Museum Advocacy Day

State of the Seal of Illinois

Arts Alliance Illinois traveled to Springfield to participate in Museum Advocacy Day with the Illinois Association of Museums and the Illinois State Museum.

On the agenda is a meeting with State Representative Camille Lilly (D-78), who is chair of the newly formed Museums, Arts, & Cultural Enhancement Committee in the Illinois General Assembly. Also on the committee are Vice-Chair State Rep. Robyn Gabel (D-18), Ranking Republican State Rep. Renée Kosel (R-37), State Rep. Kelly Burke (D-36), State Rep. Deborah Conroy (D-46), State Rep. Mary Flowers (D-31), State Rep. Michael McAuliffe (R-20), State Rep. Donald Moffitt (R-74), and State Rep. Barbara Wheeler (R-64).

One of the key legislative asks of the Illinois Association of Museums and Museums in the Parks is passage of HB1200, which would reduce the number of required free admission days per year to public museums from 52 to 26. The original legislation requiring 52 free days was passed when the State was supplying significant operating funds to museums, which is no longer the case.
