Chicago’s Investment in CPS Arts Education Plan Doubles to $1 Million

Mayor Rahm Emanuel

Mayor Rahm Emanuel was joined by Chicago Symphony Orchestra Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma in announcing the investment of an additional $500,000 of City funding towards the implementation of the first ever Arts Education Plan for the Chicago Public Schools.

The City's FY2013 budget, passed last October, called for $1 million within the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events operating budget to be split evenly for use in implementing both the Chicago Cultural Plan 2012 and the CPS Arts Education Plan.

The additional resources, which bring the City's total investment in the implementation of the Arts Education Plan to $1 million, have come courtesy of the NATO Legacy Fund, a discretionary fund created when the costs associated with Chicago hosting May's NATO summit came in under budget.
