A Farewell Note from Ra Joy
Today is my last official day with Arts Alliance Illinois. After eight years with the Alliance, I have accepted a new position as Executive Director of CHANGE Illinois a statewide public policy and political reform coalition.
It has been a joy and privilege to serve at the helm of Arts Alliance Illinois. I have had the honor of collaborating with passionate and creative artists, cultural leaders, and activists from all across the state. I am proud of what we've accomplished together. From advocating for the creation of the Chicago Cultural Plan to updating Illinois’ fine arts standards, we have elevated the presence and importance of the arts and creative expression.
As for my decision to move on, I believe we are at a moment of truth in Illinois. We can either tolerate the corruption and dysfunction that continues to undermine our democracy or we can do something about it. I’m excited about this next new adventure and the opportunity to contribute to a movement that puts people above politics and progress over partisanship.
The arts have always played a central role in advancing civic and social change. Going into CHANGE Illinois, I will continue to highlight the essential connections between artistry and citizenry. After I get started in my new role, I’ll be back in touch again with more information about some of the new initiatives we’ll be advocating for in the year ahead.
In the interim, please accept my deepest thanks for your continued support of Arts Alliance Illinois and your commitment to the transformative power of the arts. I am confident that the Alliance will continue to grow under new leadership, and I encourage you to stay connected and invest in the future of the organization. If you haven't contributed to the Alliance's annual fund yet this fiscal year, please consider making a donation.
With gratitude and best wishes for a creative and productive 2016,
P.S. After today I can be reached by email at Ra@Changeil.org
