Illinois lands first major movie project of 2013

"Divergent," a film based on a novel by Illinois native Veronica Roth set in a dystopian Chicago, will start shooting in Chicago this spring.

$1.1 million coming to Illinois via National Endowment for the Arts

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Rocco Landesman announced that the NEA will award 832 Art Works grants totaling $23.3 million as well as 40 Creative Writing Fellowships totaling $1 million. Illinois artists and arts organizations will receive 38 grants totaling $1.1 million.

Rocco Landesman announced his plans to step down as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts at the end of the calendar year. Mr. Landesman was appointed in 2009 by President Barack Obama to head the federal agency. Senior Deputy Chairman Joan Shigekawa will serve as the acting head until a permanent successor is nominated by the White House and confirmed by Congress.

Tatiana Gant named new Illinois Arts Council Executive Director

Tatiana Gant has been named Executive Director of the Illinois Arts Council, having previously served as the Council’s Director of Arts-in-Education Programs. Tatiana has been with the Arts Council since 2002 and was previously with Pros Arts Studio.

On November 6, Democrats in Illinois won 71 seats in the House to the Republicans’ 47, and 40 seats to the Republicans’ 19 in the Senate -- representing a veto-proof majority in both chambers of the General Assembly.
