2009 Conference Speakers

The future holds new promise for the arts if we can apply fresh ways of thinking about the things we already know.

Based on her recent collaborations in the realms of science, faith, and business, choreographer and author Liz Lerman will lead OneState participants on a guided tour of new possibilities in the cultural domain.

Liz Lerman has been described by the Washington Post as "the source of an epochal revolution in the scope and purposes of dance art."

As Founding Artistic Director of the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Liz works in a variety of media and disciplines and finds inspiration and opportunities for collaboration in such unexpected places as the Human Genome Project.  Her work has been commissioned by the Lincoln Center, American Dance Festival, BalletMet, and the Kennedy Center, among many others.

As a frequent speaker, Liz addresses arts, community, and business organizations both nationally and internationally, engaging audiences in "animated keynotes" with help from members of the Dance Exchange company.  She is widely recognized for her unique working process, which emphasizes research, translation between artistic media, and intensive collaboration with dancers and communities.

Watch Liz talk about the accessibility of art and how she approaches creativity and collaboration:
