We’re pleased to present a long-awaited issue of Locals Online. After a lengthy search, Lisa May Simpson was hired as IAAF’s new Program Director on March 1, 2004. Lisa brings a solid knowledge of IAAF’s programs and constituency to the position, having spent the last 2 1/2 years working for the Alliance as Membership & Development Director. She is tremendously pleased to be able to move into this new and exciting role, and is looking forward to getting to know the Locals better! Get acquainted by dropping her a note at simpson@artsalliance.org.
Join hundreds of arts advocates at Arts Advocacy Day in Springfield on April 22, 2004 and help the Illinois Arts Alliance and arts supporters across the state make the case for increasing the Illinois Arts Council budget to $24 million. By attending Arts Advocacy Day in Springfield, you will have the opportunity to hear about the state of the arts in Illinois during a legislative briefing, enjoy live performances from local artists, and meet with your legislator or his/her key staff to discuss the importance of arts in your community. The Illinois Arts Alliance will help you with scheduling meetings with your legislators and will also offer an optional advocacy training program to help you effectively advocate for the arts. Communities may apply for special designation as a Preserve America Community, which will recognize communities that: protect and celebrate their heritage; use their historic assets for economic development and community revitalization; and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources through education and heritage tourism programs. http://www.preserveamerica.gov/communities.html

Throughout this summer, the Illinois Arts Alliance/Foundation will be traveling throughout the state, visiting Local Arts Agencies and meeting with community leaders at a number of Cultural Roundtables. The purpose of these informal gatherings is to learn more about the arts throughout Illinois and how the Arts Alliance can best serve the needs of local arts leaders, and to create an opportunity for IAAF staff to get to know you (and vice versa). We’d love to visit your community. If you’re interested in hosting a Cultural Roundtable meeting, or just want more information, contact Lisa May Simpson via email or at 312.855.3105 x15.
Thank you to all of the organizations that have committed to placing an "It's Your Turn to Perform" campaign ad in their April and May publications. We believe roughly 650,000 ads will be in circulation over the next few months. These ads will mobilize arts supporters to perform for the arts by writing state government to tell them to support an increase in the Illinois Arts Council's grant budget. It's not too late if you would still like to place an ad. Click here to view and download the ad: http://www.artsalliance.org/actioncenter/index.shtml.
Please contact Julie Adrianopoli with questions. Thanks to Hadrian's Wall, Wyville USA and Scofield Communications for helping us develop and shape this campaign!
