Without advocacy, many special interest groups would not have the support, funding, or voice that they need. Illinois Creates will rely on advocacy work to influence public policy in art education—through researching the issues, becoming familiar to legislators, and using various avenues to communicate and support arts education to schools, organizations, and local, state, and federal governments.

In the coming months the Illinois Arts Alliance will revive its TAP (The Advocacy Project) program which trains volunteers, leadership, educators, parents, and staff of arts organizations in grassroots advocacy techniques and community based organizing. IAA will then coordinate advocacy training events statewide. For more information on this program contact Lisa at 312.855.3105 x15.

In the mean time here are some ideas:

Coordinate a forum on arts education in your community.
Go to the How You Can Make a Difference section of our website and find out what you can be doing.
Find out who the elected officials are in your area by going to our Legislative Action Center.
Go to the Arts Education Resources section of this website for a list of local and national resources and links to helpful publications and documents.
Use these advocacy resources to learn more about how to advocate for changes.
