A local arts
council, as defined by the Illinois Arts Council (state agency), is a
nonprofit or regional organization, or an agency of city or county government,
which provides financial support, services or other programs for arts
organizations and individual artists in a particular community or region.
A local arts council can become a member to the Local Arts Network.
The Local Arts Network is a collaboration between the Illinois Arts
Alliance Foundation and the Illinois
Arts Council to serve local arts agencies across the state.
- Connecting local arts agencies, via the Alliance, with their
peers in the community arts field
- Giving local arts agencies access to national and regional
technical assistance providers
- Creating a body politic, a powerful collective voice advocating
on behalf of Illinois’ more than 70 local arts agencies
In addition to receiving all of the benefits of membership in the
Illinois Arts Alliance, members of the Local Arts Network get:
- A current directory of Illinois local arts agencies, with resources
for funding and technical assistance
- A special Local Arts Network section in the quarterly Alliance
newsletter
- Invitations to regional caucuses and statewide conferences
with special sessions for local arts leaders
- Retreats for local arts agencies
- Locals Online, an online listserv for the community
arts field—a place to share "best practices" and
respond to topics generated by members and staff
- Links to websites, research and articles of interest to the
community arts field
- Links to local arts agencies through the Alliance website
By collaborating with the Illinois Arts Alliance, locals gain
the strength and stability of an organization that has been successfully
advocating for the arts in Illinois communities for 18 years.
